Over one hundred community-minded individuals gathered on the Guilford Covered Bridge for a night of incredible dining, outstanding friendships, and community support of the Jail Chemical Addiction Program (JCAP). Initiated in 2007, JCAP is a treatment program with specialized pods at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center directed by mastered prepared licensed therapists employed through Court Services. Evidenced-based treatment practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma care, are part of the group and individual therapy and have been demonstrated to significantly impact recovery. JCAP grew from a combined effort of the court, court services, law enforcement, prosecutors, probation, and the sheriff to address the devastation of drug and alcohol abuse in our community.
The unforgettable night raised substantial funds to support JCAP and its impact on the community through the funding of several grants.
2023 Bridge Paintings
Local high school students painted beautiful pictures of local bridges, which were auctioned off during the evening.
Supporting the Community
JCAP Transitions is the next innovative step which will further enhance the ability of the JCAP treatment team to involve JCAP participants and alumni in family and community prevention, treatment, and education. JCAP transitions will provide evidence-based programming and activities that foster healthy family relationships, accountability, and community connections in meaningful and lasting ways to strengthen positive life changes. The funding made possible through A Community Bridge provides a strong foundation for initiating JCAP Transitions.
1. JCAP Family Outreach
The JCAP treatment team with a contracted communication specialist will
develop, initiate, and provide a regular monthly program for families affected by a
family member’s addiction and involvement in the justice system utilizing JCAP
staff, participants, and alumni. The program will provide support and referral to resources to families affected by substance abuse; and will provide accurate information to assist in breaking the cycle of addiction.
2. JCAP Parenting and Family Program
The JCAP treatment team will initiate and provide weekly sessions for women
in JCAP to promote healthy relationships with children and positive parenting skills. A transition program will follow after release for JCAP graduates and others involved in our justice system who are referred by the Court or Court Services. The JCAP Parenting and Family Program will provide a new resource to
promote healthy family relationships and improve support for children in our
community.
3. JCAP Diaries
This innovative project designed by the JCAP Director will develop a
professional, high impact video that will be comprised of current JCAP participants and JCAP alumni to detail their introduction to substance abuse, journey through recovery, and transformation into a positive lifestyle.
This project will team with Project Hope and utilize a professional videographer and master prepared communication/public relation specialist and will provide JCAP participants and graduates opportunities to build communication skills, self-esteem, and valuable experience giving them stronger skills to maintain sobriety and be responsible citizens and family members. The video is planned to be “unveiled” as part of Red Ribbon Week in the schools this fall. The video will also be a tool for JCAP family and community education groups.
